Are we setting the pace for innovation in braking systems? Mercedes-Benz confirms it.

Brake systems are one of the pillars of vehicle safety and efficiency. It's no surprise, then, that leading carmakers and developers are striving to come up with groundbreaking solutions. Recently, Mercedes-Benz introduced the In-Drive concept, a revolutionary brake that sits directly on the gearbox. While this news is attention-grabbing, it cannot be overlooked that a similar solution, a liquid-cooled brake located at the gearbox outlet, was developed by

B-BRAKES two years ago as a novelty - and with its own unique patented solution. Press releases about the new system can be found below this article.

Similar benefits, different approaches

Mercedes-Benz In-Drive focuses on moving the brakes from the axles to the center of the car, where the discs and pads would be inside a closed cooling system. This brings benefits such as reduced unsprung weight, reduced air pollution and longer brake system life.

On the other hand, the liquid-cooled B-BRAKES brake delivers an environmentally friendly and efficient design. Placing the brake disc and lining in a sealed coolant housing not only ensures optimum cooling, but also eliminates air pollution due to brake dust. B-BRAKES offers flexibility, thanks to its sophisticated design, this system can be installed both in wheels and next to gearboxes. The different brake variants, both hydraulic and electronically controlled (brake-by-wire), allow easy integration into existing and modern systems for vehicles with internal combustion engines or for electric vehicles.

The right way to go

It's great to see that Mercedes-Benz is following the same direction. The development of the B-BRAKES braking system shows that innovations don't just have to come from giants, but are often the result of the determination and technical genius of smaller players.

Conclusion

Whether you're a fan of Mercedes' luxurious innovations or the technical precision of B-BRAKES, one thing is certain: a revolution in braking systems is underway, taking the industry in new directions in safety, efficiency and sustainability. And in the near future, similar brake system solutions will become part of the autonomous driving of the future.
